Richard R. Douglas

coaching / applied leadership

Richard Douglas knows what it takes to create a culture of organizational success by building and promoting individual and team success - and has used that knowledge and expertise in virtually every facet of education.

His methods and philosophy are clear...and they work. Measurably.

Beginning his career teaching AP (Advanced Placement) American History and coaching swimming and water polo at Beverly Hills High School, Richard moved into administration - first as an Assistant Principal then Principal in the Beverly Hills Unified School District.  He was then recruited to become the Superintendent of the Montecito Union School District in Santa Barbara, California, where he served for twelve years. Under his stewardship, the student achievement in the district rose to its highest level ever and the district was recognized as part of the California Distinguished Schools.

Subsequently, when the Beverly Hills Unified School District needed a turnaround, he was asked to take on what was supposed to be an 'interim' role as Superintendent of that School District. Instead, the Board asked him to stay in order to take them through the recovery and turnaround required - leading the District to re-establish its status as one of the California Distinguished Schools.

He currently acts as a turnaround expert for school districts in distress.

Richard has also brought his leadership to local and statewide business and educational organizations, serving as President of Schools for Sound Finance, Chair of the Santa Barbara County JPA Board, President of the Tri-County Education Coalition and President of the Rotary Club of Montecito.
